How does a heat pump water heater work?
It moves heat from the surrounding air into your water instead of relying only on electric heating elements, like an air conditioner working in reverse. Backup electric elements help during periods of high demand. Rheem calls these hybrid water heaters.
How much will I actually save?
Our headline uses ENERGY STAR’s $410 annual energy-savings estimate for a three-person household replacing a standard electric water heater, at an assumed electricity rate of $0.146/kWh. It is a general planning benchmark, not a measured comparison of these two specific models, a local average or a guarantee. Your usage, electricity rate, room conditions and operating mode affect actual savings.
Is “about $25/month” my loan payment?
No. The full loan payment remains due each month. The headline subtracts estimated energy savings from the payment and averages the maximum $89 lender fee over ten years; the fee itself is due with your first payment.
What could add to my price?
Some setups need extras: a duct package for closets and small rooms ($1,200), a condensate pump when there is no drain nearby ($610), and attic or upstairs access ($470). If your home needs an expansion tank, that is $410. Your technician checks your setup and confirms the final written price, and you approve it before any work begins.
What if I have a gas or propane water heater?
A heat pump water heater needs a 240-volt, 30-amp circuit at the tank, and we do not do electrical work. If there is already a 240-volt outlet or circuit within a few feet of your water heater, we can convert it. If not, we basically cannot do the job until an electrician adds one.
When can you install it?
Usually the next weekday. Pick any weekday online and we arrive between 9am and 12pm. Your technician checks the setup and confirms the final written price before starting.
What is included?
The Rheem ProTerra with LeakGuard, standard replacement labor, a new drain pan, haul-away of the old heater, and startup with a walkthrough of the app. The tank and parts carry Rheem’s 10-year limited warranty, and our lifetime labor guarantee covers defects in our workmanship.
Will it make the room cooler or noisier?
The heat pump releases cooler, drier air and has a fan and compressor you may hear. That is why it suits garages and larger rooms, and why closets and small rooms get intake and exhaust ducts.
Are rebates included in the price?
No. The quote does not subtract any tax credit, utility rebate or future energy savings. Programs vary by address, utility and model; we can help you check what is available.
