Your water vs the tankless line
Rheem, Navien and Noritz don’t cover scale damage to tankless water heaters when water is harder than 200 mg/L, about 11.7 grains per gallon. Most city water here sits just under that line, and Round Rock’s is over it. Private wells run about twice as hard.

How we size a softener
We measure it at your tap. Iron counts too: each part per million adds about four grains to what the softener has to remove.
We count people and bathrooms. More people means more hardness removed each day, and more bathrooms means more water at once.
We choose the resin volume and salt dose for salt efficiency, not maximum capacity. Most homes here need 1 to 2 cubic feet.
High iron, a sulfur smell or manganese needs an iron filter, which we quote separately.
Every softener we install runs on a Clack WS1 metered valve, so it regenerates based on the water you actually use, not a timer.
Clack valves aren’t proprietary. Parts come from any water treatment supplier and any qualified technician can service them, so you’re never tied to us. Some brands use valves only their own dealer can service.
And if you already have a softener, we service every brand.

It’s a screening test for what treatment fixes, not a lab safety test. Hardness isn’t a health concern. If you’re on a well and want a bacteria or nitrate test, use a certified lab, and we’ll point you to one.

Water filters remove contaminants like chlorine, sediment, bacteria, and chemicals to improve taste, odor, and safety. Many homes benefit from both systems working together—a softener for the whole house and additional filtration for drinking water.
It depends on your water quality and concerns. If your municipal water has chlorine taste/odor or you have sediment issues, a whole-house filter improves water throughout your home for bathing and laundry. For drinking water safety and taste, an under-sink reverse osmosis (RO) system provides the highest level of filtration. We can test your water and recommend the right solution.
No. While water softeners use salt for regeneration, the amount of sodium added to softened water is minimal and typically unnoticeable. If you're on a strict low-sodium diet, you can install a reverse osmosis system at your kitchen sink for drinking and cooking water, or opt for a potassium-based softener instead of sodium.
